The Cubs, they make my everything sweat.
They're trying to blow this thing. This thing, for anyone not following the thing, is making it to the playoffs. To do this they have to win the NL Central, in which they have only a two-game lead over the Brewers (meaning if the Brewers win and the Cubs lose, twice, the two teams are then tied). The Cubs have lost their last two games. Thankfully, the Brewers have obliged by also losing their last two, keeping the standings the same -- but that's just luck as far as the Cubs are concerned. Relying on another team to lose is not exactly the ideal method for getting to the post-season, and it's certainly no fun as a fan to watch the Cubs lose and then know there's no hope but for the Brewers to lose. Nerve. Wracking. Of course, I'll take that over the games not even mattering anymore because the Cubs are out of it (as it seemed would be the case earlier in the season), and if they do make the playoffs there certainly won't be any shortage of ulcer-inducing games, but it would sure be nice to have a couple days of rest for my poor heart. The good news? There are now only three games left, which means that if tomorrow the Cubs win and the Brewers lose, the Cubbies have it. Wouldn't that be swell.

Things I've Learned Since Becoming a Parent, #2570.
Plain yogurt is disgusting. I got some to feed to Ava (I wanted some for her that wasn't loaded with sugar or artificial sweeteners), and within the first couple bites she really didn't seem to like it. So I did what I sometimes do to get her to eat something: let her see me eating it. Blech! After that bite I really didn't blame her. Luckily it went down much better mixed with some of her fruit baby food, so from this point on I'm going to either do that or just get her the regular stuff.

Things I've Learned Since Becoming a Parent, #2562.
Try not to accidentally let a disposable diaper get into the washing machine with your child's laundry. It will be messy, though in an entirely different way than diapers are usually messy. Disposable diapers absorb so much because they're filled with these crystals that turn into voluminous, mushy, crumbly gel pieces that get everywhere when the waywayway too full diaper splits open during the spin cycle. Then you'll have to shake the gel off each piece of clothing, clean out the washing machine tub and rewash everything. All in all really too much work. Skip it next time.

Weekend update.
The 27 hours of Solheim Cup coverage ran long all three days, so it actually turned into more like 30. Of course, we fast-forwarded through all the commercials, so it wasn't really that long, but it was still pretty darn long. The good news: the U.S. won, only the second time ever a team has won on foreign soil (it was held in Europe this year). Not that you care.
The Belleville football game was chilly. Actually, it was chilly at the beginning and cold by the time it was over. And me in my infinite wisdom didn't realize just how chilly it would be (I'd say 40s), and so only had a light jacket and no gloves or hat -- which would have been okay for a short walk between the car and somewhere indoors, but not so much for sitting outside for almost three hours. Oh, and we lost, 13-15. Not that you care.
We decided to try to do all the Madison stuff in one trip, so we went disc golfing Saturday morning -- we found a new course in Stoughton (nearer than the half-hour-away Madison course) to try, that was also only nine holes instead of eighteen and fairly flat instead of the rolling hills of the other one, which we hadn't yet tried taking a stroller on and weren't sure how difficult it might be. Turns out it was a nice little course, and somewhere we can easily take Ava along.
The volleyball tournament Belleville was participating in was next (in Monona technically, but essentially Madison), and despite getting there late and having to leave early we still got to see 3 1/2 Belleville matches, all of which they won. And during the lunch break in the school cafeteria the Belleville people let us partake of some of their food they brought (tacos, fruit, brownies) and the team came over to us specifically and thanked us for coming to so many of their events (I guess they don't tend to get many spectators who aren't students or parents). Really nice.
Then we had an early supper and made a quick Target stop before going to the Saturday evening church service. We decided to skip the drive-in, since I had already seen one of the movies and we realized there was just no way we could get all our taped sports watched if we had to give up an entire evening.
When we got home we watched the Cubs game superfast (fast-forwarding between pitches and sometimes just whenever the opposing team was at bat) -- we won, by the way (then lost in the non-televised second half of the double-header). Then we watched the Iowa-Iowa State football game, which, yay! It was one of the most exciting games in a while, literally coming down to the last five seconds. Who'da thunk we could beat Iowa without even scoring a touchdown? (Final score: also 15-13. Weird.)
Sunday we slept in a bit after staying up late watching golf, then -- you guessed it -- watched a whole bunch more golf. And also that other Cubs game. And Josh did get the lawn mowed. And we somehow found time to watch the Emmys, too. I'm still not sure how that happened. Any of it, really. Huh.

I have nothing to do this weekend.
- 27 hours (Yes, 27. HOURS.) of Solheim Cup coverage.
- A Belleville home football game.
- A Belleville volleyball tournament in Monona (25 min. away).
- The Iowa State - Iowa football game.
- A Cubs game.
- Another Cubs game.
- Disc golfing in Madison (30 min. away). With a stroller.
- Church in Madison (20 min. away).
- Two movies at the Monroe drive-in (30 min. away).
- And the inevitable few weekend errands (while we're up in Madison anyway).
- Oh, and we need to mow the lawn.
- And somehow find time to eat and sleep.
