Valentine's Day
I just ran across an ad in our local paper for Valentine's Day specials at a neighboring town's floral shop....
$70 for a dozen roses.
[RANT] I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. I would be so mad at my husband if he spent that much on stupid flowers that will die within days just because of the supposed "special day." I can't stand this upcoming holiday mostly for this reason. 1) I'd rather get some flowers that will last longer and, honestly, are prettier, and 2) I'm not that big a fan of chocolate, so what good does a box of chocolates do me, either? I'd rather have a nice meal at home with a good bottle of wine--or even a few glasses from a box of wine!--and just spend time together.
We were talking about this yesterday afternoon because my husband had been scheduling with someone from up north to come down to where he is for a meeting, and the guy suggested either the 13th or the 14th. Paul said, "is your wife here with you?" "Yes." "Then let's do the 13th since your wife probably wants you home at a reasonable time on the 14th."
Anyway, that got me to thinking...I can only think of one year that I can remember what we did on that day and that was before we were married! Shoot, this'll be the second of three V-days since we've been married that we won't even be together! And you know what? It doesn't bother me. In fact, I like it this way. I have more prominent memories of the random days he'd show up at work with a vase of flowers he'd paid no more than $10 for at Aldi or came home with an inexpensive bouquet from one of the shopettes on post. Where's the fun if you only do those things just on the "special days?" In my opinion, it's less memorable because it's more expected.
That's just my opinion. [/RANT]
