La De Da
So I'm irritating the maid right now I'm sure because I'm just hanging out in the room this morning until Paul gets back from their whopping 2 hours of class this morning before they're let out to take care of outprocessing and get ready for graduation and going home.
Right now I'm attempting to type while my nails dry. I don't think I've painted my nails since the wedding but yesterday I found some polish on clearance at the PX that's supposed to help strengthen your nails, which is something mine need, so I'm trying it out.
Anyway, ya'll don't care about that. How about some pictures?
Funny cats...
Spuds hadn't seen these toys in over 7 months, so he decided he had to get them all out at once.
This is Spuds' favorite place to sleep right now. That's our guest bed that hasn't yet been put together upstairs because, well, we don't have carpet up there yet. Our bed is all set up in this room, but apparently he prefers the side of the matress.
Pretty Kansas out our backdoor...
It was hard to pick the best of my pictures of this storm rolling in. It was awesome and we have such a great view of these events. We also have a great view of...
This was the sunset after the storm from the previous picture rolled through. Talk about gorgeous!
OK, I'm freezing. The sitting room has to be kept at 60 degrees to keep the bedroom cool because the AC venting is all in this room. I might go sit out on the porch for a little and warm up and read while I wait for Paul. Or I suppose there's packing to be done. Or... hmm.
Oh, and I've added something fun to the bottom of my site. I stole it from Annie and I knew I'd been to quite a few states, but it sure is impressive to see it on a map like that. And it's pretty obvious I've been on some long driving trips to accomplish them. I didn't count Georgia for just that reason: I've only been to the Atlanta airport. That doesn't count in my mind.
Anyway, have a wonderful day!!

Tomorrow's exciting plans
Paul graduates!!!!
We get to meet Annie (from Xanga) as she is joining us for a celebratory dinner tomorrow night at one of the best restaurants in this area.

The Hole In The Wall Gang
In the interest of killing some time before walking to the PX here at Ft. Sam so the maid can get into the room...
Before.....

During...

After...

We decided drywalling will be easier than attempting to mess with the lath and plaster, so I pulled the rest out.
More pictures and stories later...

Man, it's been crazy and I'm not even sure where to begin. The cats made it through to here just fine and I didn't have to figure out how to let them go to the bathroom. WHEW! Spuds is making good progress on getting comfortable with this new outdoor location. The road being so close is taking some getting used to, and the trains being only a block away--that is downright hilarious! I don't think he's had any experience with trains or train whistles, and Paul can tell ya that the wistles are loud through this town. Paul won't be used to that either. I, on the other hand, grew up half a block from one of the busiest double-tracks in the country. What trains?
I have gotten half the dishes unpacked and some of the bathroom. That's on my agenda for the rest of today. Most of the bedroom stuff needs to go upstairs soon anyway. Our friend Jon came down and helped bust a hole in the wall between two of the upstairs rooms while making sure the structure stayed sound. Civil engineers are good for that. It looks like I may be able to come back here later today or Saturday and share some of the destruction pictures. I know Paul at least is eager.
Anyway, this is a tiny library here in White City, but it does have 3 fairly nice computers with internet access. It's about a 5 minute walk from our house, so I may be back here before I leave for Ames on Tuesday! That's comin' up quick. Less than a week until I'm on a plane to SAT for the last time this summer. Wow. Yeehaw!!
Now it's time to grill the librarian for some information on local cable/satellite/internet services, and maybe find out the name of the guy that mowed our lawn while I was gone so that I don't feel like a fool when I run into him on the street and I can write him a check.
Oh yeah, and Saturday we are getting a lawn tractor! 1980 John Deere from Omaha. It could prove interesting. I've never operated anything of the sort and I know nothing about it.

On the road again...
Just a quick post before I have breakfast with the in-laws and head off to Kansas with the kitties.
Paul's back in Texas and I have less than two weeks before I'm back on my way to bring him home with me!! This, however, means that I have less than two weeks to get a massive amount of stuff done at home in Kansas. What gets done, gets done, and what doesn't get done, doesn't get done.
It should be interesting traveling with the cats. I've never done it by myself before and it'll be triply interesting if I have to let them out to use the litter.
Anyway, breakfast time. I'll be around as much as I can.

The best laid plans...
Let's just say that things didn't go quite as planned this past week. I didn't think I wouldn't get Beth and Josh's bedroom painted. I didn't think I would miss Sarah's wedding (not my sister). I didn't think we'd be driving to Milwaukee to pick up Paul, let alone spend 5 days together. I didn't think I'd be going to the McLain County Fair that I've heard about so much about. I didn't think we'd be seeing House on the Rock, which Paul always thought was in Michigan. But most of all, I didn't think I would be seeing my grandmother on this earth for the last time.
It's been a tough week. I haven't felt like posting, as I'm sure you can understand. I have a post about my grandmother that has been rolling around in my head, but I haven't been able to find the motivation nor the time to write it, especially with the silver lining of getting to see Paul for several days when I didn't think I would until the end of August, so we have been trying to make the most of that.
Today we head to House on the Rock so that I can see where some of Paul's crazy house design ideas come from. Then it's off to Milwaukee to crash at a relative's house near the airport because Paul's flight is at 0545 and neither of us liked the idea of leaving the Madison area at 0245 to get him to the airport in time. Then I'm back here to grab some things that won't fit with Paul in the car, then to Normington for the night to shorten my trip and pick up some kitty cats that I've been missing. Then it's on to Kansas....3 days later than planned.
Not sure when I'll get to a computer again. I'm going to try to set up internet and all that soon, but we have to look at options and what makes the most sense, so it might be a while. Afterall, it's now only about 2 weeks until I'm back on a flight to Texas. Wonder when all those boxes will get unpacked.
