I don't really know why you'd be here. I mean, I know I'm the single most interesting person, but don't you people have lives? Really, it's quite sad.

I remember the last time I monitored weather forecasts this much

Paul was coming up to Racine, WI, to take me down to meet his family at the beginning of January 2005. There was an ice storm. He, however, was driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle. It does make me feel a little better to look at the hourly graphs for Lamoni, IA, and Kansas City, MO, on the National Weather Service website. It looks like as long as I can make it south of Des Moines safely, it should be too terrible. And by the point I'm leaving, it should be starting to taper off, making roads more likely to be cleared. This is as long as it doesn't change, and we all know that weather forecasts never change. ;-)

Now look at the forecast I really like looking at: Ft. Bliss, TX. :-)

What a weekend to pick

This makes me very nervous. It won't stop me, but it sure doesn't give me a good feeling about tomorrow after work until the time I pull up to Molly's duplex safe and sound in Olathe, KS. Prayers are VERY appreciated. :-)

I've done slightly more last minute than this

But not much. And that was a driving trip, not flying. As of this past Saturday, I am driving down to Kansas City on Thursday right after work, crashing at Molly's place, then getting up super-early in the morning to catch a plane to Atlanta, GA, then on to El Paso, TX. At the airport in El Paso, I will be greeted by my wonderful husband who I have not seen since around 7 a.m. (CST) on February 5.

Paul and I will get to spend late Friday afternoon through early Sunday afternoon together, at which time I will catch a flight out of El Paso to Atlanta and on to Kansas City. Then I'm crashing at Molly's again (because I'll be getting in at 11pm) and driving back up to Ames Monday morning to be here in time for half a day's work.

Why, you ask, are we doing this crazy weekend? Paul has a 4-day weekend because of Presidents' Day. We were originally going to each drive half, but decided to spend just as much time together and not be totally exhausted, plus I get to see where he is these five weeks!

Now you may ask why I'm going to Atlanta first. Good question. We're baffled by that one, too. Seems awfully silly to us, too, but that was the cheapest/best times flight.

So it's off to Texas I will go with the clothes on my back and one, maybe two, carry-on bags. It'll be fun. :-)

(P.S. Yes, I realize I'm missing Beth-Annie and Ed being in town. And, yes, I realize I'm missing the congregational potluck. But ask me which of all the options for the weekend I care about most. I dare you. You'd do it, too, in my position.)

"One special thing about this guy: He has finished second to his wife. Paul Hester."

I think Paul was proud of that. And we certainly got a kick out of the fact that the bartender announced it to the whole bar. Now life gets even cheaper. :-)
