Problems Solved
[I almost copied my sister there in the title line, but decided I better not so she don't beat me up. ;-)]
1) I got the archives fixed on this thing finally.
2) December 31, 2005--guest list and exact time yet to be finalized.
3) Wedding dress....I'm about to make my second payment on it and that is a really neat story I should tell here someday soon.
Problems Yet To Be Solved Oh, let's not even go there....I don't like that list, it keeps growing. :-P

"It's been brewing for a while"
Last night on the way to a very expensive dinner at Aunt Maude's (that we didn't pay for :-D) I was ranting to Paul about a pet peeve that's been on my mind for a while, afterwhich this exchange took place:
Paul: I love the way you say things. Karly: What do you mean? Paul: Most people would have said, "I wouldn't've been behind them," but you said "I would not have been behind them." Karly: Okaaay. That's how I talk when I'm ranting--it has more force behind it. Paul: It's just cute. [I'm not entirely sure the above Paul quote was in there, but I think it might have shown up at some point.]
So my peeve: People who don't use turn signals! This is especially annoying at a particular type of intersection, which I am at on a daily basis. Anyone familiar with the Sheldon and Lincoln Way intersection in Ames can more easily picture this. Sheldon Avenue, from both directions, has two lanes just before and just after crossing Lincoln Way. Neither is marked as turn and/or straight only, however, the right lane soon ends after crossing Lincoln Way. Most people use these lanes in this way: If someone is in the left lane with their left turn signal on, go to the right lane so you don't have to wait for them to turn. If someone is not in the left lane or the person in front of you does not have their turn signal on, stick with the left lane. My biggest peeve here is especially the people who don't bother to turn on their signal until the light turns green! And every single time it happens--which is frequently--I say, "thanks for the tip!" Is it really that difficult to push a little lever with your hand? Half the time I don't even think about it and I especially try to do it when I'm actually turning in a situation like that.

The problem with a cat is that it starts out as a kitten.
I don't know why people always say that the problem with a kitten is that it becomes a cat. I, personally, after experiencing a kitten constantly underfoot for a week, say it's the other way around. Kittens sure are cute, but boy are they annoying. They don't leave you alone and they want to climb all over you. And before Paul trimmed her claws yesterday, I had two instances resulting in bleeding scratches on both my leg and stomach: First, she tried climbing my bare leg. And by climbing I mean running and jumping up with claws out to grab a hold, which she did and hung there by the one claw that actually dug deep enough into my skin to hold. And a few days later she jumped from the toilet lid right onto the stomach of my shirt. She is much easier to get along with and ignore now that she's got trimmed nails, though I do have to say that yesterday at lunch was pretty amusing when she climbed up Paul's shirt and just hung there as he took his plate over to the sink to rinse it like there wasn't a kitten attached to his front at all. It's been fun having her around, but we're both looking forward to dropping her off at her permanent home this weekend. :-)

It's polling time!
So I have plans to post lots of stuff about all the places we've run off to the past several weekends, but it's been a little busy here at work with the new school year fast approaching and getting a new boss. Hopefully I will get to those eventually, but for now I will share a little of the insanity of this past weekend.
We went up to Wall Lake for dinner Friday night with the Neutzmans at the Carnavan Inn for all you can eat Walleye. Saturday I took Paul up to Okoboji for the first time in his life [more to come on that later]. Sunday we went to church at Peace Lutheran in Wall Lake, had lunch with the Neutzmans before they took off for Ames, then we took off for Ames--kind of. We headed in the general direction of Ames by way of a round of miniature golf in Lake View (we tied) and Hagge Park by Sac City. It was as we were leaving Hagge when we decided to find a fun way home. Paul's idea: follow the Raccoon River on gravel roads. This is where my Iowa Atlas & Gazetteer comes in extremely handy. As we followed the river through the countryside, we ran across some very interesting things, our favorite being an old abandoned bridge in Calhoun County that is on the National Register of Historic Places.

I walked halfway across the bridge then turned around and headed back to the car as I asked Paul if we had the tripod, then answered myself because I had been the one to put it in the car. As he took it out, he said, "This might be a good spot to get some engagement pictures." I just smiled and said, "Exactly." So. Your job, oh patient readers (who still don't know for sure when the big day(s) is/are for us, because neither do we), is to help choose a good engagement picture: [brightness, contrast, gamma, etc. can be altered...I have not at all because I haven't had time. :-)]

We just think this one's cute and it was purely accidental--Paul was reaching to get the leaf out of the way before it took the picture.

And Paul told me on this next one not to pose and just to look at him. [It is not in the running, I just thought I'd share with the whole class.]
