I don't really know why you'd be here. I mean, I know I'm the single most interesting person, but don't you people have lives? Really, it's quite sad.

Saturday is coming, I promise

Just bear with a couple kinda funny things from a couple classes this past week before I forget them...

First, in Pauline Epistles we had pop quiz. One of the questions was:

The first Christians probably met together in
(a) a tavern
(b) a church
(c) a house
(d) a yellow submarine

I think we should go back to meeting where the earliest Christians met together...a yellow submarine! Come on, people, let's get back to our roots! :-D

We also had an exam in Geography. My professor for this class likes to ask on all the quizzes and tests what "new idea" this chapter or these chapters we encountered that we didn't already address elsewhere on the test. So I wrote about what first came to my mind: pursuing geology classes after completing my degree here, when I have been swearing I'm done with school after this year. I will not be surprised in the least if I get full credit for it. He, afterall, never specified that it had to be something lifted directly from the textbook, but the first few chapters have made me think about this a lot, and that's exactly what I said. It's a new idea I encountered as a result of this first unit. :-)

Things I said I'd post about but haven't yet: South Dakota

First, a little background...Sharon and Michael, two of my friends from ISU/church/PHS, started dating each other last semester. Michael is from Wall, SD, home of the famous Wall Drug, where he has worked at least the past several summers.

After PHS practice on January 14, Sharon, Michael, and I were standing around talking and seemingly out of the blue Michael says to me, "Hey, do you want to go to South Dakota this weekend?" "Uh....I don't know..." They then explained to me that since they had Monday (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day) off and Sharon had never been to South Dakota and Michael had never actually been to Mt. Rushmore, they decided to go for the weekend, as inexpensively as possible. It didn't take much more to convince me because I had never been to South Dakota either, love road trips, and hate giving up opportunities like that if I don't have to. And so the planning started...

Michael and Sharon came up with the idea on Tuesday, asked me (and some other people who didn't end up going) on Wednesday, and Michael spent Thursday planning where we would stay, what we would do on what days, and even came up with a detailed itinerary. (He's not taking a full load of classes, so he's got a lot of time on his hands. ;-)) We were on a rather tight schedule the whole weekend because we had to leave Saturday morning instead of Friday after Sharon's classes so as to reduce the number of nights in a motel, and Michael had to be back for an RA meeting at 8pm Monday.

So Thursday night after Bible study, the three of us discussed some specifics and made some final decisions. I spent Friday night at Sharon's apartment to make things easier in the morning since the plan was to leave at 6am...

[In the interest of my time and keeping posts relatively short, I will not post about the entire trip all at once, so tomorrow (or soon :-)) I will post about Saturday.]

What a terrible friend am I

A week ago yesterday was the birthday of a good friend of mine here and I completely forgot. I had even told him I would post on my blog about it. He has even bought me McDonald's (with gift certificates he got from calling GC alumni begging for money for the College), loaned me his guitar (because I got the itch to play and didn't have mine here), puts up with my incessant ramblings (about people/things he couldn't care less about), and is the only person at this school who will gladly make me drive his car (something I desperately need more of and often get shot down...makes learning how to drive extremely hard, let me tell ya! :-P). So anyway, all that and what do I go and do? Forget his birthday. I'm such a jerk. I'm sorry, Ryan...can you ever forgive me?

(P.S. We will watch Pod People soon. :-))

A little music video for ya'll

Please go here and click on the link for the video "You'll Think Of Me."

I absolutely love and am addicted to this video for several reasons:
1) The song has been a favorite of mine off his latest album since last May--long before it was released to radio.
2) I think it is a well done, effective video that often brings me at least close to tears.
3) I want to own that house...at least the location of it.
4) Keith Urban is hot. :-D

In other music video news...Kellie Coffey just earned bonus points with me (not that she needed them :-)) in her latest video. Can anyone figure out why? [If that link didn't work, go here and scroll down to the full-length videos and click on Kellie Coffey "Texas Plates."]

I just scanned the videos page of CMT's website and I just have to say that I will not apologize for liking country music. Make fun of me all you want, it won't change a thing...those are some dang good songs listed there. :-P

In the words of a wise woman, "It's amazing how much you get accomplished not doing homework when you need to do homework."

Anyone know what I accomplished? It's been a long time coming... :-)

Potty Talk: What would be your perfect Valentine's Day date?

[Every once in a while, if a Potty Talk from Burritt strikes me as fun or interesting, I may share it with ya'll. :-)]

My response: A day-hike up a mountain or something with a picnic at the top or wherever just surrounded by and enjoying the beauty of nature and each other's company. This would also be a good proposal date, but NOT on Valentine's Day. :-)

I think a close second, though, is how I'm spending Valentine's Day this year... :-D

"Yeah, I love that Jim Carrey..."

Recently I have been mentioning more and more to people (even people I don't know extremely well) that I wish I could go back to Iowa State after completing my degree here and get a minor in geology. This has been rekindled (not that it ever really died that much) by a couple of things: my geography class and South Dakota (which I will post about just as soon as I get the digital pictures in a couple of days :-)).

Reading the geology chapter in my geography book tonight and poking around the ISU Geology Department and Geology Club websites, I realized something kind of funny: I have Greenville College to thank for me realizing this passion. If I hadn't needed two lab sciences for this crazy school, I may never have taken geology. I had always thought myself to have more of an interest in astronomy than geology, which is why I took that initially to cover my science requirement at ISU. While I do still also love astronomy, I was amazed to discover in geology what a much stronger desire I have to dig deeper into that and all the fun stuff that goes along with it... I especially hadn't paid much attention to rivers/streams and groundwater in the past... It's just all so cool!!!

P.S.... $1 (minus the cost of shipping) to the first person who can tell me both 1) what that quote is from, and 2) why I used it. :-)

A post has been requested (or Things I said I'd post about but haven't yet)

I don't remember why exactly I never came back to tell ya'll about church, but a lot has happened in the past two weeks.

I got to church around 9:00, as I do every week for Bible study. There weren't many people there, but I was greeted enthusiastically by my pastor and his wife since it was the first Sunday I was back. They were trying to decide if they were actually going to have Sunday school and the church service because the weather was quickly turning bad. Finally, they decided to cancel the service, but there were enough people (10-15) who actually showed up that it seemed silly to send us all away without doing anything. So we gathered in the sanctuary with a few songsheets and Rebecca (my pastor's wife) playing guitar. After singing a couple of songs, we read some of the responses for the service (since it was a special service celebrating the confession of St. Peter), then Pastor Nehrt gave something of a children's sermon with the four kids who were there. After that the kids had Sunday school and the adults went downstairs to have a Bible study on the readings for the day...kind of like a more interactive sermon. It was fun. :-)

Next edition of Things I said I'd post about but haven't yet: South Dakota! Maybe even with some pictures...
