The mystery plant
About a month or so ago, Dr. Holman enlisted the help of Susan, Liz, and me in the PR for the Greenville Free Methodist Church's building project because they are building a new church. Last weekend was the groundbreaking ceremony, which he asked us to be around to help with. The three of us got to help direct the parking in the field on the new property. As something of a keepsake, they had little clear plastic boxes to fill with soil from the property. Because I was involved with it, like keepsakes, and there were plenty of boxes and soil left, I also took one, even though I really have had nothing to do with that church since March or April. Anyway, I was looking at the box tonight when I realized a plant has sprouted! I have no idea what it is, but I intend to try to keep it alive at least long enough to find out what it is.

A finalish word on decisions
Unless I start getting annoyed with my current hair length too much, it will stay and just be trimmed.
The camping class will depend partly on where we go (haven't asked yet) and how much it will cost in addition to the already expensive cost of just attending this crazy school.
Now the big one... I've decided to work on the yearbook. I'm quite probably going to be a section editor for the yearbook. Cat (the editor) and I were chatting today after class (Prof Ross treated us to Dairy Queen :-D) and we're both getting really excited about working on it. This year is the 100th volume so we want to make it memorable. :)
Coming soon.....test results. :)

A little more about decisions
Hair: (not the musical :-)) Usually, around this time of year, I get to the point where I just want to chop my hair off to somewhere between shoulder- and chin-length. I haven't been getting that feeling much lately. Tonight I ran into Claire, who cut my hair last year. She and I started talking about this decision I've been trying to make. She, of course, liked how she cut it last year, but suggested a couple of things if I didn't want to cut it that much: trim it just a little bit or get it more layered, but still long. I'm not so sure how I'd feel about that last one...
Camping/backpacking: I don't know where we'll be, but I think I may see if my teacher knows yet because I have him for HPR 102 right now.
Yearbook: I really enjoy my journalism class, which is somewhat similar to working on the yearbook. My professor gave my name to the editor as a possible person to work on yearbook staff. The editor also approached me today about working on it. She's a little disappointed with the lack of response she's gotten so far. She wants to know by the 22nd.
Agape: Honestly, I'm getting away from wanting to work in the music industry. I've really been leaning much more toward small town local things, like newspapers or tourism. And I saw last year what being on Agape staff did to many of my friends...running around with no sleep and their heads cut off. I do think it would be fun and I still enjoy music and the industry enough, but I'm not sure I want that to consume my last semester. Applications are due the 22nd.
Considerations about yearbook/agape: I cannot do both. No one would stop me from doing both, but I just won't do both. I could still volunteer at Agape. Or I could, again, just enjoy the festival with my friends and family.
Alaska: (response to Beth's comment) yeah...

Some things I just need to get off my chest
They're keeping me up at night and I just need to be out with it once and for all. I can't keep it all inside anymore!!
First of all, I like Switchfoot. Don't yet own an album, but like it all. My dad's the one I really needed to tell this and I did a couple of months ago.
Second, I like Plumb. I own their first album on cassette and Beautiful Lumps of Coal, which I'm listening to as I type this.
Finally, I've gone country. Majorly. I can't help it. I tried to stop it. It couldn't be stopped. I hide it no more. (I try not to overdose my roomie on it, though, because I know she can't always take it. :-))
There. I feel much better now. Thank you. :-)

Decisions, decisions, decisions...
[One of my least favorite words in the whole world. :-P]
Should I cut my hair?
Should I take camping/backpacking and lose my Spring Break of going home/looking for a job?
Should I work on the yearbook staff?
Should I work on Agape staff?
Should I run off to Alaska? ;)
Should I...
(Don't even get me started on post-graduation decisions....that's when I start seriously considering that Alaska one! :))

I don't talk to anybody. People annoy me.
This weekend was so wonderful. I got a lot done and, at the same time, got to do a whole lot of nothing.
From Friday night through Sunday morning, I talked to all of one person (including online): my neighbor, and even that was short little things. I needed that so badly because I had gotten so burnt out on constantly interacting with people. Have I mentioned how much I'm looking forward to being done with school? (Even though I have absolutely no clue what's happening after school... :-P)
Sunday was also nice and relatively interaction-free. My church here had a potluck picnic at Patriot's Park, which is about a mile outside of Greenville. Only one road takes you there: combined Illinois state highways 127 and 140, which are the only way into town from the Northwest. And I do mean the only way...I've looked for others. So I walked along this road to get out there. It took all of half an hour from my dorm to the park. That's nothing. I just wish I didn't have to walk along that road to do it. However, I impressed my pastor's kids. Joel kept marveling at it..."you walked all the way out here??" "That's so cool." Jessica thought I was crazy...."you're insane...you walked that whole way?" "You walk half an hour out here then sit there and read?? How do you do it?" It was great fun. :) The food was good, the conversation was good, and I got to help the adorable little kids fill clear crosses with colored sand. :)
As I was typing this post, I was interrupted by my dear friend Christy, who I have mentioned before and almost lived with this year. She's applying to grad school at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and, actually, has been trying to get me to go with her or at least live with her, but one thing I do know is that I'm going back to Iowa and don't want to live in a big city of any kind (and that includes small population suburbs :-P). Anyway, she wanted me to proof/edit something she wrote for the application, which I will happily do for anyone who asks. As I was going over it, making changes and asking her questions, our conversation turned to make me think more about possible future jobs. I have to apologize to anyone this might annoy, but I think I'm just going to post the conversation here...it's not very long, I promise. :)
KalyB7382: I should be a copy editor :-)
PrincessBeandip: yes you should
PrincessBeandip: i've been thinking that alot latley
PrincessBeandip: heck just come to grad school with me and i'll pay you to be my editor

KalyB7382: hehe
KalyB7382: you know, my proofing/editing really started my sophomore year at ISU because my roommate would always have me look over her papers and articles for the Iowa State Daily
PrincessBeandip: you should recognize your calling YEAAAA copyediting
PrincessBeandip: they make alot ya know

PrincessBeandip: that is soooo true
KalyB7382: wherever home would be.....this is sounding better and better :-)
PrincessBeandip: seriously......you already do it, might as well get paid for it
KalyB7382: :-)

Shock.
Molly left me a message on my computer last night: "Did you hear Andria Belle died yesterday?" Andria hadn't been sick that I knew of, so I immediately started searching The Ames Tribune online for answers since Molly wasn't at her computer by the time I got the message. I found her obituary, which was no help in unraveling the mystery, so I searched the recent mid-Iowa news stories. Car accidents. I later had it confirmed by Molly. Andria was the woman in the last accident described, and I agree with one of the readers who says the Trib did a poor job with the article.
So who is Andria?, you might ask. I graduated from high school with her. Even though she and I were not friends, we did know each other and she was friends with several of my good friends--such as Molly. While I mourn for her, her family, and her friends, I find this to be a stark reminder of just how quickly we can leave this world when we least expect it. I also find myself thanking God once again that Molly's accident a year and a half ago did not end in the same way.

Attack of the killer Japanese beetles (For Julia, although I'm sure she doesn't read this)
I am normally not one to complain about bugs unless they are attacking me--the gnats at the LPGA ShopRite Classic in Atlantic City...mosquitos while disc golfing (or watching trains :-P)...butterflies.... However, the past two days it has been impossible to walk across our tiny campus without being bombarded by fake ladybugs. It is thoroughly annoying.
In other news...yay for the Chicago Cubs! (Or the Cubbies, as my sister likes to say. :)) Bill, with his bum knee (hope the MRI goes well!), went down to Atlanta yesterday and was actually at the game. So today I learned that we are only 9 hours away from Atlanta down here. I'm 9 hours away from my grandparents in Wall Lake down here and Illinois touches Iowa. How crazy is that??
Apple cider is a wonderful invention. I will probably have to invest in more and possibly some cinnamon and cloves (it is cloves, right Bethy-who-has-the-recipe?) at the same time...

So I like the smell of cleaning products. That doesn't make me weird.
The Mike Roe/Terry Taylor concert was wonderful. My article was not. It didn't get published, but that was more because Jonny's column this week was about it. They did a mixture of songs. It was highly entertaining.
Yesterday I visited Greenville's Apple Days and was tempted to buy a lot of things, but settled on just some cider. Then I did ALL my dishes. Then I sang On Eagle's Wings in church. Then Shannon, Ariane, and I went to Wal-Mart where I finally got myself a mirror (because our room didn't have one), nails (the hardware kind, unlike a week before :)), a scale, and Formula 409 Orange.
Today I went to church, then I spent 3.5 hours at lunch because Mandy and I started talking. I swear I could talk to that girl all day. She's great. :) Then I cleaned. Yay! Too bad it won't stay this nice very long....the madness will return. :-P
OK, I can't think of anything else and I'm spacing off...........

Aaah, the sweet, sweet smell of cleaning products in the Fall...
What a crazy, busy week...it's been like the end of last year and it's only starting the second month of school. I've had so much to do lately that it wouldn't be possible for me to get a head start on an assignment even if I wanted to.
The faculty advisor for our COR 401 group project approached our group last weekend during class with a "pre-made" project suggestion: Marketing/PR for COR 401 as a general class, this year's topic, and the individual group projects for the Day of Common Learning on April 22. Chrisy, Ryan, and I (half our group) having already had experience at this, jumped at the chance. It will be as easy as pre-made pie. (Why do people say "easy as pie"? Pie, at least whenever I've made it, is not that easy...) The other half of our group, however, will be student teaching Spring semester, so we have to get this almost all done by January, but that will be kinda nice for us.
A report on my weekend and the concert will have to come later as Ariane just called and we're going to run to Wally. :)
