The six verses of the Lenten hymn "Were You There?" are each given a discrete meditative treatment that accentuates each stanza's lyrics. The six short reflections can all be performed together as a single piece, or the six verses can each be done independently -- they could be played where the lyrics of each verse meet the Passion liturgy at Maundy Thursday service, for example. None of the reflections are particularly difficult, but they all require musicality and a connection between the vocalist and the quartet. Trio requires four-in-hand on one part.

A contemplative arrangement of "Joy to the World" in a minor key that is actually meant for use during Lent rather than Advent: The solemnity of the music with the familiar Christmas tune and the well-known lyrics of the adoration and hope for the world that came with Christ's birth results in an extremely poignant and powerful combination during Lent. It would also be appropriate for a midnight Christmas Eve service or for communion during Advent. Available for two, three, five or six ringers.
